I was ordained a priest in 1999. A big inspiration for me was Myriel Bienvenu, aka the bishop from “Les Miserables.” (Click here for the full story)
I’ve always wanted to be like him, in a church like his. I’m interested in combining his poverty of spirit, honor, and love with a strategic pastoral intelligence equipped for twenty-first century challenges and opportunities.
I want to follow the lead of the Holy Spirit and of Pope Francis in helping the church form disciples and reach the lost with the saving love of Jesus Christ.
I would describe myself as doctrinally orthodox and pastorally progressive. I'm interested in anything that helps the church be more effective in helping connect people with God and advance His Kingdom. I am tired of ideology and the culture wars; I just want more Jesus and more of His Kingdom for myself, for others, and for our hurting and groaning world.
I am a native of Waukegan, Illinois; a1995 graduate of Franciscan University of Steubenville; the son of a labor union organizer and a stay-at-home mom; priest for the Diocese of Peoria, IL, and I currently serve as pastor of St Ambrose Parish in Milan, IL and St Patrick's Parish in Andalusia, IL.
I am also a musician. You can check out my work here.
